A. Gene Nelson



Dr. Nelson is a Senior Professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics. He came to Texas A&M University in 1990 and served as Department Head until January 2005. He then moved to College administration as Executive Associate Dean until May 2008.



He received his education at Western Illinois University and Purdue University, and joined the faculty at Oregon State University as Assistant Professor and Extension Farm Management Specialist in April 1969. In 1981, he was named Head of the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics. Dr. Nelson’s teaching, research and extension programs have emphasized risk analysis in decision making. He received the USDA Superior Service Award for leadership in developing innovative risk management teaching materials. He has authored several publications including an undergraduate farm business management textbook.
